If you’re breastfeeding your probably looking for a good Organic NON-GMO postnatal vitamin. The truth is every mother should look into taking a postnatal vitamin even if they are not breastfeeding. This supplement will help your body and mind recover. The health benefits are passed along to your new born if you are breastfeeding too.
Here are a several important reasons why you should supplement with a postnatal vitamin:
* Numerous studies have been done on postpartum depression after birth and the one study found that there is a link between omega-3 fatty acid deficiency and postpartum depression. Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, is a beneficial omega-3 acids. DHA helps create breast milk and supports the development of the newborn’s brain, eyes and central nervous system. You can pass along this important omega-3 acid on to your baby through your breast milk.
* Vitamin A is beneficial for maintaining healthy skin, teeth, skeletal and vision. Mom’s breastfeeding can be deficient in this vitamin as it passes through their breast milk.
* Calcium is so important cause a nursing mom losses bone density. You need calcium daily to support bone health as well as the baby’s growth.
* Vitamin B-9 or folic helps in the development of the baby’s nervous system, but nursing mothers can continue to pass on this important vitamin to the baby. Folic acid has also been shown to help with postpartum depression.
* New mothers can lack zinc. Zinc is a trace mineral that supports the immune system. Pregnancy affects how your body absorbs zinc one study found that new mothers who supplement with zinc had more energy and their babies had less colic.
There are several brands of prenatal vitamins, but not as many options for important postnatal’s. To help you with your search for a good quality organic NON GMO postnatal vitamin we have created this list:
When you first start breastfeeding your baby, most moms at some point will experience sore nipples. For some it can be worst than others, especially with your first baby; you can experience dry and cracked nipples. And if the baby has a bad latch your nipples might even bleed or get blisters. This isn’t something I knew would happen with the first baby as no one really mentioned that this was a problem for them. But then when I mentioned it to other moms they would tell me all about their breastfeeding nipple troubles… I wish someone would have talked to me about it before hand so I would have had time to look into different options for dealing with the pains and the dryness. For my second and third baby though I was prepared and made sure I gave proper care to my nipples so that I would not experience the same problems I had with the first.
There are many natural and organic ways to deal with this problem. One way is using a natural organic NON GMO nipple butter like Earth Mama Organics. This nipple butter has NO petroleum, parabens, lanolin. Importantly organic and NON GMO verified and you don’t need to wash off for nursing. Another thing that I found was important was staying relaxed while nursing. Breast feeding in stressful environments would usually result in a poor latch especially with my first baby. Also if a new mom is having trouble with the latch its best to see a lactation consultant and read about lactation and nursing. Lots of helpful resources available.
Are you ready for the big one? Is your family prepared? Keeping our family safe, warm, and fed after an earthquake takes planning and prepping. Generally speaking most disaster relief organizations recommend that families prepare to survive on their own for the first 72 hours after a disaster. In reality though if possible to be safe large families should aim to have 10 days worth of supplies at home. If a member of our family has special needs we should make plans to get the extra help needed and include additional supplies to assist them. It can be a pretty daunting task to try to pack everything might need for a family. Fortunately there are many companies that pack emergency kits.
Have you ever practiced an evacuation plan with your family? If not might be time to give it a try and test to see how ready your family is for the next big one.
We recently discoveredLifeStraws which we have added to our 72 hour go bags. They are pretty awesome you can get clean water anywhere. The company that makes LifeStraws also makes a commitment that for every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child in need receives safe drinking water for an entire school year.
I have a few family members that live in South America that have contracted Chikungunya from a mosquito bite. I must admit that thinking of going to visit the areas affected with my children frightens me a bit. So I understand why someone would want to get rid of mosquitoes in affected areas. But seriously are genetically modified mosquitoes the answer? It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie. Dana Perls of Friends of the Earth put it this way: “This is an experimental technology which could have devastating impacts”. Friends of the Earth is an environmental group that’s part of an international coalition fighting this new generation of modified organisms.
What they are doing with this experiment is turning the females a bit more male. They want to transform the insects mouths so that they resemble male mosquito mouths. That way they can’t bite and spread the malaria parasite. They also the females become deformed and can’t lay eggs, so they become sterile.
They have the idea that if these modified mosquitoes are eventually proven to be safe and effective, they might be released in an African village that suffers from malaria. So they can crash local populations of the main species of mosquito that spreads malaria
Are they not worried about the importance these mosquitoes have in local ecosystems? How can they test what the real impact of releasing a mosquito like this would have on other species that feed on these mosquitoes?
Summer time is a great time for family’s to come together and enjoy a picnic at the park. A staple at all of our picnics is watermelon. We love watermelon. Recently I came across this really adorable mini watermelon variety called Cucamelon which is a Non GMO Fruit. I haven’t had the opportunity to taste them yet as I’ll need to buy the seeds and grow them first. But from what I have read they taste sweet and sour. Has anyone every tasted them before? It would be so cute to bring a bowl of mini watermelons (AKA Cucamelon) to a family picnic, along with of course regular watermelon.
The best NON GMO snack is of course organic fresh veggies and fruits. But sometimes the family would like a packaged snack readily available and today thankfully there are so many options available for the family that are practical and tasty. My family really loves fig bars from Natures Bakery and they are verified NON GMO. There is a Non-GMO Project label on the packages and proudly on the front of the boxes that contain them. Having these types of snacks readily available helps my family avoid snacks that would contain GMO’s. Of course there are so many more options other then fig bars. What packaged NON GMO snacks does your family enjoy? BTW I noticed a special promo code for Organic Sprout snacks so I figured I would share it on this post.
Have you ever suffered from dermatitis on your hands using certain baby wipes or soaps? I have and when I switched the baby wipes I was using to WaterWipes it made a huge difference on my hands and my baby’s bottom. I noticed there was no more rashes…. Many don’t realize this allergy till they switch soaps or baby wipes and find that their hands get better. Those who suffer often are told by the doctor that it is eczema or contact dermatitis and there is nothing that can really be done but use certain prescribed ointments. If you don’t like the idea of using these ointments the rest of your life because of potential side effects, then its important to start to educate yourself on the ingredients in your personal care products.
As an example the preservative methylisothiazolinone or MI according to this article in the New York Times might be linked to rashes and allergies. If you suffer from itchy dry hands it might be as simple as changing your personal care products to provide you some relief. This is a good reminder to always read the ingredient label before purchasing baby wipes if you suffer from allergies or skin conditions. If you do suffer from chronic dry itchy skin you should always consult a physician.
Do you like the idea of giving a handmade gift for a baby shower but just don’t have the time or energy to actually make it? I hear you. I love handmade gifts that are unique. But honestly very few can find the time to put something together before a baby shower. Thankfully there are lots of people offering unique gifting products online that can be customized. Here are a couple ideas:
In the winter we spend more time then usual indoors in our warm homes especially further North you live. Keeping the air in our homes clean involves more then most think…. Many don’t realize that indoor air pollution can actually be 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor air.
One of the main contributors to the air quality in a home is household cleaners. Some household cleaners emit harmful chemicals, such as chlorine, ammonia, phthalates and triclosan. You can avoid exposure to these toxins by selecting natural non toxic cleaning products or creating your own cleaning products like using white vinegar with lemon. But my favorite cleaner right now is Thieves Household Cleaner. I just love the smell of the essential oils used its calming and smells fantastic. Plus its very economical to use as it needs to be diluted with water to be used in a spray bottle. This cleaner goes far and lasts a long time.
Natural Non Toxic Cleaners should be:
